Description This once-in-a-lifetime event was hosted by comedy legend, Mr. Bill Cosby, and featured an all-star band that included Vinnie Colaiuta and Rick Marotta, on drums; Michael Landau - guitar, Jimmy Johnson - bass, Larry Goldings - keyboards and guest appearances by Will Lee - vocals and Tom Scott - saxophone. Music includes songs from throughout Steve's career. The evening culminated with a spectacular performance by Steve Gadd, with James Taylor and the band. The double-disc DVD features the evening's performances, incredible rehearsal footage, a 20-minute documentary, on Steve's career, narrated by Tony Levin, backstage interviews, and much more.

Not a "must have" but still very good June 9, 2005 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I was very excited when I heard about this DVD and I pre-ordered my copy. I'm a huge Steve Gadd fan but, honestly, I was more interested in seeing Vinnie. Both of them deliver their usual solid playing but, if you're a real fan of either, none of the drumming will blow you away. The entire band is just sick, though, and they make the high price of admission to this disc worth it. I love Michael Landau, Jimmy Johnson and Tom Scott and they deliver superb, rocking and swinging performances. Anybody who knows these guys (and Vinnie) from The Baked Potato in North Hollywood will love their playing on this disc. The James Taylor segment was nice but not memorable. The one annoying part of this disc, for me, was the long and boring introductions of countless people paying tributes to Steve or Armand Zildjian. Luckily, you can jump past them to the music. Overall, I would say that this disc is overpriced for what you get, especially since the "bonus" disc is pretty weak, but if you're a hardcore fan I would get yourself a copy.
a special dvd February 5, 2005 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
If you are a fan of Steve Gadd (and every drummer who plays the drums should be) you will love this dvd. It is a tribute to an amazing musician. The concert is great-both the performances and speeches. I especially like the biography on Steve. And the bonus material on disc 2 is incredible. From the interviews with people like Eric Clapton talking about what Steve brings to their music to the rare old clips of Steve performing. This is not an instructional dvd and should not be compared to one (like someone did in a review on Amazon). It is a historic document of one of the premier musicians of our time and well worth the money.
Not worth the money December 30, 2004 3 out of 8 found this review helpful
I got this DVD from my wife at Christmas, I was so looking forward to it and when I watched it I kept waiting for great performances to fill my ears and eyes. Well I did get a few of them, thanks Vinnie. I popped the second dvd in hoping that it would have great bonus features, nope! The menu screen has sound bites of additional material that didn't make the cut and the stuff they put in the video is of bad quality due to age (the Army band song is cool though) I have an extensive drummer DVD collection and would say that the Steve Smith DVD is the best one going at this time. American Drummers Achievement Awards, awesome! November 9, 2004 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This dvd is a MUST for any drummer.
Steve Gadd has influenced just about every drummer over the last 25 years. The concert portion of the dvd is great. Vinnie and Rick Marotta are incredible and the production brings you right there. Crank it on your 5.1 system-the audio is amazing.
What puts it over the top-way over, is the bonus material. There are old clips of Gadd performing in various bands from the 70's on up. For the Gadd fan, these are priceless. There is a Gadd bio that should be shown on tv. Its the best piece I've ever seen about his career.
Then there are interviews with everyone from Eric Clapton, who tells he won't perform without Gadd, to Chick Corea talking about the historic records they made together and on and on. There are days of viewing, watching and learning. Steve is one of the masters of our time and I am glad to have this dvd to begin to understand what he has meant to music and to drumming.
If I could, I'd give it 100 stars. Hudson rocks.
A Wonderful Show October 15, 2004 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Steve Gadd and the late Armand Zildjian are both exceptional at their respective crafts. I attended this show and I can tell you that the performances at the show were very inspiring. I can only hope the video quality captured what I witnessed. If you are a drummer, you should see this show - very well done by the Zildjian Family.
