Great singing, terrible sound July 26, 2000 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Crackles, pops, in places barely audible even when turned up full blast. Hopeless if you want to figure out the lyrics or get the musical jokes. Get "Die Legende Lebt" or "Die Legende Lebt Weiter" or the movie soundtrack to hear why these guys were an international sensation.

My earlier review was far two harsh. I have grown to love this cd despite the fidelity.
To anyone who doesn't get who these guys were December 23, 1999 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
If you don't know they sang in pre-war Germany and all their records are on 78rpm, and if you can't appreciate why the original sound is the purest you'll ever get from a group like this, it would be better to rent the movie and hear the soundtrack, which is beautifully cleaned up. This is a review of the songs, not of the fact it is not cleanly remastered, etc. Otherwise, for those who love the haunting, marvelous songs and doo-wahs from this bunch of wonderful artists, this CD, in all its hissing imperfection, is marvelous.
revised opinion November 23, 1999 Having listened to this CD a few more times, I concluded that I was far too harsh in my earlier review. Even though the quality of the sound is not good, the singing is so wonderful that the CD is still a delight. Michael Spiro
Beautifully Bizarre September 28, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Don't dare let a recently acquired disdain of "imperfections" in audio recording keep you from being taken in by the otherwordly strangeness of these tracks. Not to be missed!
