For those parents who spin a lullaby CD every night to help their young ones ease into sleep, Patti Teel's The Floppy Sleep Game will be a welcome addition to the bedtime routine. Adamant that this is not a replacement for bedtime stories, Teel is equally convinced that Floppy Sleep will enhance story time with a mixture of song, narrative, and a shake-the-day-out methodology for relaxation. This 20-minute CD is, at first, altogether simple in musical terms, with Teel narrating along (and even coaching that kids should have their jammies on and teeth brushed before listening), then singing, then leading the charge through ambient ocean sounds and other soothing audio excursions. The gist of the game referenced in the CD's title is to have kids involve different parts of their bodies, mentioned in the running narrative, and feel the day's excitements leave the body as the story continues. Teel takes her process directly from yoga exercises, and even a casual adult listen triggers a certain focus on the body and an easing of its tensions. All the while, Floppy Sleep Game is very soft and tender, a sweet way to make the transition from day to night and enter the dream world from a position of relaxation. --Andrew Bartlett

Album Description
"The Floppy Sleep Game" is one of the first children's bedtime aides to use yoga and guided visualizations to lead little ones down a peaceful path to dreamland. Beautiful orchestrations and Teel's soothing voice create the perfect sleeping environment for children. The first track "The Flop Game" uses yoga techniques to flop and relax children's body parts while comical instrumentals accentuate their movements. On the second track "The Sound of Dreams," a friendly turtle invites a child to float downstream on its back while forest animals say goodnight from the shore. Children hear water flowing, crickets chirping, and frogs croaking.

2 out of 5 stars This CD is retarded and the narrator sounds psychotic   January 17, 2008

I think this cd is overpriced. It's only 20 minutes and the price is the same as an artist's cd, which is usually about 60 min. Think about all the work that goes into an artist's album compared to this repetitive babbling narrated by a woman who sounds possessed for much of the time. I personally can't stand this and the sound of her voice makes me cringe. I bought this for a 9 yr old boy and after I put it on, I had to get out of the room right away. The cd isn't very effective and I think he thinks it's pretty lame. Maybe this would be better for ages 2-6. We won't be buying any more Patti Teel albums.

3 out of 5 stars very relaxing   June 26, 2003

This a good CD - I've tried absolutely everything to get my daughter to fall asleep on her own - she's nearly 5 years old now, I think it's about time. This didn't work either, but it's very soothing and my daughter definately drifted off to sleep much faster. I often drifted off too. I liked it alot, but it certainly didn't teach her to sleep any better.

5 out of 5 stars An aid to children learning how to relax   February 4, 2002

Patti Teel composed and performed The Floppy Sleep Game as an aid to children learning how to relax. Part 1 (The Flop Game and "It's a Mother's Lullaby") encourages children to "flop" their body parts whil various musical isntruments correspond with amusing sounds. In Part 2 (The Sound Of Dreams) children hear peaceful music as they are guided on a magical mental journey. Highly recommended for family, day care center, and preschool resource collections, The Floppy Sleep Game is also available in an audiocassette format ...

5 out of 5 stars Thankful Mom   December 21, 2001

My 7-yr old son is finally falling asleep! No matter what time we would put him to bed, he would be up until 11-12 every night. It has worked every night so far. We're slowly working on moving his bedtime up now so he'll finally get a full night of sleep. Thanks for such a wonderful CD. We're looking to get the second one now for variety!

5 out of 5 stars Nothing else worked.   October 9, 2001

My 3 year old hates to sleep. She will do anything to keep herself awake. We have tried keeping her on the same routine every night, warm baths, soft music, and reading. She would lay in her bead until 11:30-12:00 every night. The Floppy Sleep Game has been amazing. It worked the very first night. Just in the first 5 days bed time has been between 9:30 and 10:00 with no up and down or crying. She ask to play the "Flop Sleep Game". We are now moving bed time up to 9:15 this week and should have her at 8:30 before long. My 10 year old even likes to play.
