Madonna's eleventh, and final, studio album for Warner Bros., Hard Candy is a brilliant up-tempo collection that adds a hip-hop beat to the cultural icon's club sensibilities, thanks to collaborations with Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams, and Nate "Danja" Hills. Following her previous studio album, 2005's Confessions On A Dance Floor, which debuted #1 and has sold more than 8 million copies around the globe, Hard Candy punctuates the first 25 years of the album career of the most successful female artist in history with a musical exclamation point.

1 out of 5 stars Not for Madonna fans?   May 14, 2008

I guess this is not an album for Madonna fans but for Timberlake, Spears etc fans. Her style is very different from her earlier albums, but not in a good way.

Couldn't find a single memorable song after listening to the album twice. Usual solid Madonna melodies and catchy rythms are nowhere to be found. Rythmic background of all songs are hip-hop, which is not a genre I like. Very disapponting.

Madonna fans beware, this may not be the album for you. Be very very careful before hitting the "purchase" button. Listen to some tracks first to see if you'll like it.

5 out of 5 stars Best Madonna Album In Years A Favorite   May 14, 2008

Madonna has released her latest CD "Hard Candy." The twelve track CD is her best release to date. The album is comprised primarily of up-tempo and dance tracks. The tracks are more melodic, urban and dance floor quality rather than techno. The album's first single was the huge single "4 Minutes," featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. "Hard Candy" is a very modern Madonna album. Fans of current pop artists will relate to the album. Fans who enjoy Madonna classic's such as "Holiday," "Music," and "Into the Groove," will enjoy the updated yet familiar sound of "Hard Candy."

"Candy Shop" is a cool mid-tempo track produced by Pharrell Williams. Pharrell actually produces a handful of songs on the album. "Give It To Me," is a fast paced urban pop synth inspired song with a futuristic edge. "Heartbeat" is a funky track with a nice melodic chorus. "Miles Away" is a laid back song that fits nicely on the album. "She's Not Me" is a sassy song that stands out on the album. It's the perfect get back at the wrong guy song. "Incredible" is one of the best songs on the album. One thing that is instantly noticeable on "Hard Candy" is the fact that the album blends together very continuously. "Beat Goes On," is a funky club friendly track. "Dance 2Night" is another equally funky urban flavored track. "Spanish Lesson" is a fast paced salsa inspired track. "Devil Wouldn't Recognize You," is a very memorable song for Madonna. It's a really great song. The album closes with the song "Voices," which is another funky track.

Music fans will appreciate the appearances on "Hard Candy" by producer's Pharrell Williams, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West and Timbaland.

"Hard Candy" is Madonna's best album in many years. It's a great collection of songs that are great for the summer and the club. There isn't one ballad in the bunch. The album features production by Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, Danja and Kanye West.

i cannot be more disappointed. i'm a HUGE madonna fan, but this really sucks. save your money and DON"T BUY IT! there is only one decent track (#11) which i could have down-loaded for 99 cents.

This is a fun and rewarding listen. No overly histrionic vocal performances here but a fun and engaging listen nonetheless. Manages to tread new territory but combining the new sound with an unmistakably old school Madonna flavor so as not to alienate the faithful. All hail!
p.s. she's coming to san diego!! wewt.

4 out of 5 stars Back to the 'first album' vibe   May 13, 2008

You can't expect another 'Confessions' by Madonna. She's never done the same sound twice. This time she went for the sure thing and, boy, she delivers. An army of four: Madonna, Timbaland, Justin and Pharrell spawns this hyperpop thing that is impossible to escape. The problem for most people is that it grabs too much of Furtado and Stefani, but actually those two girls borrow a lot from Madonna's pop approach in the early eighties. Stefani's been called the 'watered down Madonna'. So the queen of pop can't go wrong on her own field.
Hard Candy lacks the hypnotic aura from her previous 'Confessions' and 'Music', and instead falls into pure hip-hopvselectro ground. This CD is totally danceable and dumb. There are some more mature tracks like Devil Wouldn't Recognize You and Voices, but the drive is mainly the dance floor and the sing along crowd.
Yeah, it is like Gwen and Furtado on steroids. Madonna did it better. And that's a fact.
Stand out tracks: 'Heartbeat', 'Incredible', 'Give it 2 Me', 'Candy Shop' and 'Beat Goes On'. Purely infectious aggro rythms. Awesome way to end a legacy at Warner.
