5 out of 5 stars Lutes Galore   July 3, 2008
I saw the movie to which this CD is the sound track many years ago. I remember being entranced with the music, so I was thrilled to find the CD on Amazon. It is simply wonderful listening. It is a recording I play on a regular basis. Don't miss it!

5 out of 5 stars A stunning introduction to French Baroque courtesy of Jordi Savall   March 14, 2008
I've long been a fan of Baroque music, particularly of castrati repertoire, but until hearing Tous Les Matins Du Monde, I had been unfamiliar with French Baroque, having dedicated myself to Italian and German composers. I saw this CD in a Best Buy about five or six years before tracking it down, and I'm sorry I waited that long to discover the beautiful gems within.

Enter Jordi Savall, famed Catalan violist, conductor, and composer. The viol was developed in the 1400s and used extensively throughout the Renaissance and Baroque. Tous Les Matins Du Monde, like Le Roi Danse, revolved around French Baroque music, specifically, works by Marais, Sainte-Colombe, and Jean-Baptiste Lully. Jordi Savall brings these works to memorable life, opening with Lully's stately Marche pour la ceremonie des Turcs. There are several marches and dances, but many of the other pieces are slow, stately studies for the viol de gamba, of which Savall is the undisputed modern master. His wife Montserrat Figueras also contributes angelic vocals on several tracks.

The rerelease Tous Les Matins Du Monde: Dix Ans Apres includes a second bonus disc of additional compositions by Lully and Marais. This is a beautiful testament to the French Baroque and a wonderful introduction for those unfamiliar with composers such as Lully, Sainte-Colombe, and Marais.

2 out of 5 stars Incorrect Version -Even After Investigating   December 25, 2007

I received the wrong version of this CD even after I spent a week working with Customer Service. They assured me they had corrected the problem and that I would receive the CD with the bonus material.

Alas when I bought it and opened it up it was not the correct version. The CD they are sending only has the first 16 pieces on it. You can buy the original 16 pieces in other CD versions besides this one.

So if you are buying this for the added bonus music you will not get it. If you are buying this CD to just have the first 16 pieces then that is what you will receive.

1 out of 5 stars Beware - this is NOT the right version!   July 7, 2007

This is a fantastic CD and all, but as of July '07, what they're shipping is not the "10 Years After" (Dix Ans Apres) version, which includes a bonus disc and has all 33 pieces listed on this page. I got a single 16-song disc, the same one I bought 3 or 4 years ago. Buyer beware.

5 out of 5 stars Disc one is great....disc two doesn't exist...beware   July 5, 2007

I have the original 16-track version of this recording and couldn't agree more with the glowing comments left by others. However, this listing is somewhat misleading as the reviews mention that it is a newer release with a bonus disc containing 17 extra tracks. Since other reviews and the Alia Vox website itself mention that such a thing exists, I went ahead and ordered it, only to receive the same single disc version I already had. Amazon tells me the double one isn't available, so beware.

It's still great music though.
