Beautiful Music for Listening or Meditation December 15, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Nancy Kulkarni's CD is a great example of a western instrument being adapted for Indian classical music. The rich dark tone of the cello will be familiar to Western listeners. The use of overtones, pizzicato, double stops, and small variations in pitch in the context of North Indian classical music is truly unique. The pakhawaj (North Indian drum) playing of Manik Munde is very tasteful and entrancing. This CD would be excellent for Yoga exercise, meditation, or simply for the pleasure of listening to one of the world's most beautiful musical traditions played by two great musicians.
