Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
"Sweetly fluid, dreamily orchestrated folk-pop." -- Time Out New York

The mysterious sounds of Dark Smaland, the third album from Heather McIntosh's songwriting project The Instruments, evokes thoughts of Nico's ethereal vocal stylings and Nick Drake's sense of intimacy. The album finds largely the same lineup we have seen in previous releases--Derek Almstead (Elf Power), Eric Harris (Olivia Tremor Control, Elf Power), and Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel), with a couple of new faces including Alasdair Maclean (The Clientele). The album has a poppier yet somehow more sophisticated sound than was heard on previous recordings. Heather McIntosh is currently occupied with touring as a member of Gnarls Barkley, but a national tour is planned for Fall 2008.
