Excellent mix from Bolling and Co. December 6, 2007 I first heard Bolling's music through a music teacher who wanted me to play the piano parts for the "Toot Suite" album years ago, and I've been hooked ever since. Baroque and Blue opens it up well, Sentimentale is a new favorite that goes from delicate and lilting to upbeat and jazzy, and delightfully so. Listening to Africane makes me wish I could see guitarist as he performs it live, it just sounds like he's having fun with those phrasings!
Anyway, if you're on the fence deciding if this CD is worth your time, get off it already and buy it. Chances are you'll like more tracks than not, if at all.
Bolling's Greatest Hits May 13, 2007 If you haven't heard Claude Bolling's music, this is the CD you want to buy first. Not only does it have the best tunes of all his CDs each tune shows which CD it came from.
I love playing a Bolling tune and asking a friend is this Classical or Jazz? They'll always say it sounds like Classical and then it shifts to Jazz. Everyone that has heard his CDs goes out and buys it.
Smart Jazz March 8, 2006 A clever and talentous work on the pulse of jazz, mixing it with classical music.
A Flutist's Intro to Bolling October 20, 2002 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Get this cd if you want to hear Bolling's works for flute before deciding if you would like to perform them. A great cd overall, maybe another brave flutist would like to redo these works? Although the late Jean-Pierre Rampal was known for doing 'the Picnic Suite' and 'Suite For Flute and Piano' I would like to add another artist to my collection.
Amazing Collection of Artist's & Bolling Compositions May 1, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Seems as here exhibited that the best of classical and jazz do have an area of union. Bolling combined the two by writing his suite for Flue and Jazz Piano, as well as these others for the specific performers. How about writing a piece just for Jean-Pierre Rampal and Yo-Yo Ma? Favorites include Baroque and Blue, Baroque in Rhythm and Rag-Polka. This is music of a different sort, but most enjoyable. Bravo, Claude!
