David John Duckworth follows in the long line of music lovers and musicians, who for years enjoyed creating their own music in home studios, building up a mountain of material with no real plans to do anything with it! Then, one day they think to themselves, "I wonder if" and a demo is born!
This is how Enraptured came to hear some of the many works of D.J. Duckworth and was suitably impressed enough to tag a track for the forthcoming compilation, "Bedroom Ambience 4" due out on Enraptured Records in March 2004
David's contribution is called, Quieter Times Ahead and will be exclusive to BA4!
In the meantime checkout his self released works, such as the fore mentioned, THE PARABLES OF ARTISTIC CREATIVITY, which I attempt to review here!
While running a label I have never been asked to write a review, but there's always a first time and with David's enthusiasm, how could I refuse!
The album opens with Visions of Paris, a very dreamy start, which places you in some down town ultra cool Paris lounge bar, chilling out with a tall drink and soaking up the atmosphere.
This track has oodles of cool!
Defcon Four, considerably up's the pace and changes style, shocking you gently but firmly from your previously induced mellow state with it's more rockier overtones and electro beats!
Conceptual, brings the album back to chill out level with a melodic mix of guitar, strings, salsa beats and vocal sample.
Next up is Pink Perfume, with a track that seems to draw from 70's funk and 80's electro and blends them together along with some soul diva vocal samples.
River of Gods, has one of those Gospel Choir samples that always seem to make you feel good mixed up with electro beats and tubular bells and just for good measure, what sounds like some pipe organ!
Invisible Jim, is full on electro-rock, with an 80's full on feel and some very cool drums!
The Strangeness, slips into the world of dance tracks with this trancey number that would probably be at home in the late 80's and early nineties, but equally feels right in the present!
Junction 36 - M6 North, is a trip back to 80's dark, atmospheric electro!
Opaque Emotion, enters the realm of intelligent dance with a tune that would be good on your stereo or at a club!
Elevate Your Thoughts, returns to 80's electro with a mix of beats, strings, synths and vocal samples.
Dreaming, closes this album and is 80's electro funk, flavoured with great sampled soul diva vocals and is quite, well, dreamy!
It's clear that this collection of tracks are heavily influenced by the 80's and 90's, but to wonderful effect!
A very enjoyable album!!!
