The pad does the job.
When it arrives it will be folded into a box and it holds that form and is tough to flatten out.
I let mine sit upside down in another room for a few days to get it flat, a standard household iron doesn't work.
The pad that holds the bass from slipping is thick and high, and is placed near the very front of the rug.
This will help keep your floors and rugs clean if not used for gigs.
Or you could just use a random piece of carpet you cheapos.
