Special Features: Notebook pro audio recording has never sounded so good, or been this convenient and affordable. Indigo IO offers one stereo 1/8 inch analog input and output on a Type II Cardbus card powered by your notebook computer. It combines this with 24-bit/96kHz converters for the quality you deserve. Also included is a 6 foot audio cable for RCA or 1/4 inch connections. A unique feature of the Indigo IO is the use of "virtual" outputs. Indigo IO appears to software as if it has eight separate outputs, which are digitally mixed down to the physical outputs using Indigo IOas "console" software and its on-board DSP. This makes Indigo IO compatible with all popular multi-track software. And, with Echoas "multi-client" drivers, more than one application (such as an editor and a software synth) can be playing back through Indigo IO at the same time.

I had problems installing my indigo in a Via Epia carputer, it just hangs... Anyway I tried in another computer, it almost installed well in my laptop but I can not make the mic to work. Anyway, I wrote to the support service and they answered me a six letter email message, like "try this...", even though in my email message I wrote that I have tried that same thing they recommended me to do.
After that I wrote another email message telling them that I've already tried that... they did not answer me, and it's been like three or four days since then.

Initially I had planned to buy a Creative sound card, but happened upon a good review of this card, so I took a plunge. I have been very pleased with the card. I have a Compaq EVO laptop that I use the card with. I have used it to digitize my old music collection: LPs and cassettes primarily. I connect my old Elac Miracord 770h turntable to a Carver preamp, then the preamp out to the Indigo. I use the Cakewalk Pyro 5 software to pull in the analog sound and then cut it into tracks. I adjust the input volume using the preamp volume control. As far as output from the card, I run it through a Cambridge Soundworks Model Twelve portable system. Sounds quite good to my admittedly aging ears. The weak link in my case is either my ears or the condition of the LPs and cassettes. I thought about giving it a 4 because it hogs the two slots area on my laptop, but that's no real problem, just a minor annoyance.

Being a musician, I really appreciate all of the little details that go into a piece of music. My 8-bit laptop sound card wasn't doing it for me, so I decided to treat myself to a ECHO Indigo IO. The sound improvement is dramatic. When I let people listen to audio using my ECHO Indigo, they always comment on how much "crisper" or "cleaner" the music sounds. The range also shows improvement, although it is not as easy to tell with cheaper headphones. I got a decent pair of headphones, the Sennheiser HD-280's, and then I could really tell the difference in my music. When I first used them together, the sounds was rich and full, it was amazing. It seemed like listening to music became a whole new experience. My only complaint would be that the ECHO Indigo doesn't fit perfectly into the slot, it wobbles around a bit. It's not a big problem at all, and a small price to pay for the sound coming out of this card.

Firstly, don't be turned off seeing that very few people have rated this product. The truth is that, if you look around for a PCMCI audio card in audiophile sites and stores, you will see this product reviewed exceptionally well. The average Joe only goes for the commercial hype and don't know of any venerable professional audiophile products.Let me put one thing straight. If you decide to pay for this product, you better be having some good quality headphone (and i don't mean a Bose :-).. for all those who think Boss is any good..) like Grado, some higher end Sennhieser, Koss, Etymotics, Sure, etc. Because if you don't, you may be disappointed with this sound card. The analogy is if you have a bad eyesight and you are viewing a girl from 20 feet, it wouldn't matter if she got pimples on her face or not, you won't make any difference. On the other hand, if you have a good eyesight, you will notice the difference. Same goes here, if you sport a cheap headphone, don't waste your money on any high end audio gear.<<<<<< Sound Quality >>>>>>: The first thing you will notice when you play an mp3 is the well improved Bass, near pristine high ends. A few hours with the Indigo io and you'll hate to listen to anything without it. Indigo gives you much more depth to the music and overall a fabulously improved sound quality.<<<<<< Extra >>>>>>: Another very important feature of the Indigo io is its near zero latency via its input jack. If you play some music instruments and would like some quality hook up to the laptop and yet be portable, you have no other way to go except the Indigo. There is no other product in the market that gives this quick response in a PCMCIA form factor.<<<<<< Comparison with Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2zs >>>>>>: The comparison if of interest to many people. The Indigo blows away Creative in terms of sound quality. Its like comparing a Mustang to a Corola in terms of speed and acceleration. If you have a 7.1 speaker system you would like to hook your laptop then Creative is the only option. I use a Headphone and I want the best sound quality, so Indigo is all for me. Some people say "for games the Creative is better".. I just don't understand that.... if the output sound quality is way better by the Indigo then how in games it will give poorer output than creative.... just doesn't make sense.<<<<<< Competitor worth considering >>>>>>: Headroom Total Bithead.
