Simple solution for small cost July 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm so glad to have found this product here on amazon. I had been using Acoustica Spin It Again 2.1 Music Conversion Recording Software - Windows on my desktop PC to convert my collection of audiobooks on tape to digital audio files. Then I ditched my desktop PC in favor of an iMac. I planned to run Spin it Again (there's no Mac version) on my notebook PC to complete my audiobook conversion project.
Oops: the notebook doesn't have a line-in audio port, only a microphone jack. Acoustica warns that it's not good to use the microphone jack to link in the tape player to the notebook PC, as mic ports are sensitive and may be blown that way. I went ahead and recorded a couple of tapes using the mic input but the sound quality was harsh; the sound really overloaded the mic jack.
So I decided to heed the warnings about the microphone input, and find a USB audio input device. I bought the Griffin iMic / USB Audio Interface which is an elegant device that works with my iMac but sadly doesn't work with Vista. In reading the iMic reviews I learned about this device. I'm not doing sophisticated digital audio; I just want to make decent audio files from my audiotapes without spending a lot of money.
This product arrived this week and this morning I got it set up with my tape deck and notebook PC. It worked smoothly right away and I've already recorded the first side of a tape. To listen to the sound as it's being recorded I plugged a set of powered computer speakers into the U-Control's headphone jack which is more convenient to me than using phones.
Outstanding Value May 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this product on the recommendation from a respected member of an audio forum I routinely visit. I use the UCA202 to convert audio through the USB port of my PC to an optical output that I can feed into an external DAC (digital to analog convertor). The DAC output, in turn, feeds my headphone amp. At $30, this is a great value, and much cheaper than buying a dedicated sound card that has a whole host of functions I do not need.
EXCELLENT PRODUCT FOR THE MONEY March 27, 2008 I needed a simple device to add a line-in to my laptop. I had tried an M Audio product, that was over twice the price of this unit, and it never worked right. The UCA 202 worked right out of the box with a three minute set up time. It is 16 bit; adequate enough for most applications. The sound is crystal clear. I bought mine from American Musical Supply. Would totally recommend this item.
Behringer; A budget's best friend December 28, 2007 This U-Control works exactly the way I wanted it to. I have an ibook g4 with Mac OS X and this piece of hardware works perfectly. My headphone port stopped working because of a logic board problem, and I needed an alternative so I could use headphones instead of the internal speakers. I am very familiar with Behringer products and I expect only a one to two year life span from this product. I haven't explored any of the recording aspects of the product, but I'm sure it does what Behringer says it does.
easy to use December 13, 2007 unbelievably simple to set up and use. I was up and running, connecting my Behringer mixer to my PC, in no time.
