This an excellent way to learn bluegrass fiddle! Mike Taylor's illustrations in his DVD, his coaching and the use of his booklet with tabulature to assist the student is excellent. Not only that, but Mike is one heck of a nice guy. When I bought this DVD, I got the booklet for guitar, not fiddle. I EMAILed SMP Music, and Mike replied telling me that he'd ship the correct booklet to me - which he did, and I shipped the guitar booklet back to him in "trade"! I recommend SMP instructionals to anyone willing to learn seriously, being careful to practice 'till you get it right, as this is a great series of "private lessons" which makes learning a difficult instrument easy and fun!

If you want to watch someone play lots of basic fiddle tunes and need fiddling tips, get this DVD. BUT, if you can't read even simple music, look for something else. This DVD uses "tablature" in place of real music notation.
The instructor plays many simple folk tunes with progressive complexity and no "showing off". I'll keep this DVD and study it alot, but I'll have to convert the tablature booklet into real music when I have time.
