Description Through his books, videos, classes and workshops, Pete (Dr. Banjo) Wernick has probably gotten more people playing bluegrass banjo than just about anyone. His video, "Beginning Bluegrass Banjo, " has been one of Homespun?s most popular titles since it was issued in 1986. Now we are re-releasing it in DVD format, making it easier than ever for new players to get started. This is the perfect course for those who want to play three-finger style bluegrass banjo from scratch. You may never have touched a banjo before, but Pete will have you picking right from the opening minutes of this user-friendly DVD. After getting tuned up and learning some easy chords, Pete teaches you the basic rolls and left-hand fingerings that make up your first bluegrass instrumental. As you progress, you?ll learn how to add slides, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and a variety of right-hand rolls in the three-finger bluegrass style. By the time you finish this course, you'll be picking favorite bluegrass songs, including "Buffalo Gals," "Mama Don't 'Low," "Columbus Stockade Blues," "Handsome Molly," "Shady Grove," "Worried Man," "Big Ball In Boston," "Red River Valley," "Roll In My Sweet Baby's Arms," "Jesse James," "Lonesome Road Blues," "Little Maggie" and "That Good Old Mountain Dew."

Outstanding Value!! May 31, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've been picking the banjo for 16 years and owe it all to starting with this incredibly clear, well organized, and accessible bundle of lessons. I first bought it as a video and went through it with a fine tooth comb. Many fine hours of jamming and playing in bands have ensued. Pete is one of the finest teachers out there...you'll be rolling and grinning before you know it!!
Playin' a mean banjo March 11, 2006 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
This tape/dvd is an outstanding piece of work. I think it is essential for people starting out on the banjo to have training such as this. Homespun has split screen so you can see the picking/strumming and also see the fingers on the fretboard. If you enjoy 3 finger Scruggs style, buy this lesson now and start to play a mean banjo!
