The Most Relaxing Classical Album in the World has nerve frying soft music offset by disturbing operatic voices that sound like a saw on steel.
I do not like this CD.

I've never written a review on Amazon before, but this 2-CD set made me want the WORLD to know about it. First, you can't beat the price for 2 CDs. Second, it is a marvelous collection of VERY relaxing pieces. Third, no surprises...the "raucous" or "hard edged" movements are left out (no surprise), so that all you are left with is the sublime. I often suggest this for people who are not all that familiar with classical, but want something more "mellow".

This is the perfect CD set for both relaxing and as background music. Also definitely recommended for potential classical music enthusiasts. I'm very, very glad I made this purchase.

Dear Amazon, you've got your song clips mixed up on the listing for this CD set. All the songs from disc one are sampled on the corresponding numbers for disc two, and vice versa. Perhaps the songs are listed under the incorrect CD numbers? I was dumbfounded when I clicked on a Debussy clip, and Samuel Barber came out. I do plan to buy this album anyway, because a lot of my favorites are on it - I can't resist that version of Pachelbel's Canon (no harpsichord!), but it might be confusing for an unwary "classical collections" shopper.

OK, let me get this out of the way first. I am no expert on classical or any other form of music. I remember one time commenting to a concert pianist that I really didn't care for the work of some classical composer or other. He looked at me and asked, "Have you ever taken and Musical Theory courses?" I acknowledged that I hadn't so he dismissed my comment without further thought. I had to quit playing in the band after 9th grade because I realized I didn't have the "ear" to advance. However, I know what I like and I have been a fan of all music that touches my soul whether it's German beer-drinking music or Beethoven. I practically grew up on classical music as I educated myself from my parents eclectic selection of the genre. So why do I feel like appologizing for panning this CD? Probably because I was looking forward to enjoying some great music, most of which would be new to me. I was ready to add to my favorites but I came away cherishing only Grieg's "Morning" and Debussy's "Claire de Lune" (the greatest piece of music in the world...ever!). I enjoyed Pachelbel's "Canon" and I was sure the final cut on side two was familiar; I realized it was the song Sean Connery was always singing to himself in "The Man Who Would be King". Other than that; zilch. I will likely play this album from time to time while driving long, lonely roads by myself. I may even come to enjoy another selection or two. However, this CD can gather all the acolades it may but it isn't worth the price of purchase in my book. That's one man's honest opinion (with appologies, of course).
