5 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Haunting, and You Can Nod Your Head to It   August 31, 2002

Probably the biggest compliment I can give this Soundtrack is that it is one of two movie soundtracks that I have ever bought. The other was The Godfather. I NEVER get excited enough over a movie's score to go out and buy it. Even if I really like the way it works in the movie, I don't buy it. In fact, under almost NO circumstances do I buy movie soundtracks, they don't usually do anything for me. But I'm being redundant...
When I saw Requiem for a Dream, the very first thing that struck me about it was the music. When I heard "Summer Overture" in the first few minutes of the movie, I loved it. LOVED it. I knew at that moment that I had to buy this soundtrack, and only hoped that they had released one. And that was before I had heard the best parts of the soundtrack, like Lux Aerterna, Meltdown, and Winter Overture. But really all the songs on here are outstanding. Yeah like many people said, they are all pretty short, but really that only makes you like it more. Have you ever seen a movie that you felt ended way too soon, and you wanted to see more of it? Well, that makes you just want to go watch it even more, right? Same with this soundtrack. The fact that the tracks are so excrutiatingly short makes you listen to them over and over. The sound of that violin (you know what I mean if you've heard it) is so haunting, yet so beautiful, and yet again it is so damn catchy! You'll have it stuck in your head for days. You'll be whistling it as you go about your daily routine. I personally often find it stuck in my head while at work, and when I get home I pop this CD in and can't help buy smile as I hear those first sounds of the bass of Summer Overture.... Trust me, buy this and you will NEVER regret it.

5 out of 5 stars An awesome movie, of coure the soundtrack follows suit.   August 4, 2002
This album is everything that you would expect, the chilling effects of this intense movie are captured quite well with in its compelling music. If you liked the movie, you'll like the soundtrack, straight up.

5 out of 5 stars "Summer Overture"   July 30, 2002
"Summer Overture" is one of my favorite pieces of score ever. It's pure genius...Clint Mansell is a genius. If you love this film, you will love this great score. It's a brilliant piece of art.

It is a great cd. At first you don't get the music but once you have listened to it, you get the feeling of the music.

3 out of 5 stars Over half the tracks are just a tease   June 23, 2002

This soundtrack is of criminally short length. Over half the tracks are just a tease when they could've been so much more. Many will start out like they are whole songs, but seem to be cut prematurely when they're actually not. The longer tracks are absolutely beautiful, and they make you realize what the short tracks COULD'VE been if they were extended past the 30 second mark. I can't believe the longest track on here is only about 3 minutes and 45 seconds long. There's nothing bad about the instrumentation or composition at all; the only glaringly huge problem is that the majority of the songs are over before you know it. Also, I disagree with the reviewer who said the 'Conga' songs don't fit the rest of the album. Personally, I think they're a bit on the nightmarish side because they seem like they should be upbeat but they're somehow not. The 'Conga' songs have a weird underlying creepiness that's hard to pinpoint; it reminds me of something that should be fun but ends up going out of control. Since I've never seen the film to this soundtrack but know its premise, I'm guessing these are the parts where of the characters are tripping, but I could be wrong. Anyway, the songs are five-star quality, but be prepared to be disappointed because most are so short. If you like this soundtrack, check out the "Insomnia" soundtrack by David Julyan; it's a bit on the depressing side as well, but then again, people don't listen to this kind of stuff to feel happy.
