 A brilliant score for a brialliant film October 14, 2000

I don't want to go into detail. Just see the movie (if you can stomach it) and buy the score, now! Even if you don't see the film the score is worth listening to. I just bought it a few hours ago and it's been repeating on my stereo ever since.

A surprisingly faithful adaptation of the book (with the exception of substituting a motivational-speaker-type TV program for a game show), "Requiem for a Dream" is a journey into obsession and madness that spirals to a relentlessly intense climax. Clint Mansell's score is perfect in every way for the material. The score is by turns painfully moving, shocking, ethereal and always haunting. "Requiem for a Dream" may well turn out to be the best movie released in 2000, and Mansell (and the Kronos Quartet's) soundtrack is by far my favorite score from any movie released this year. A hands-down masterpiece!
