Charming Debut September 2, 2001 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
Myra has nothing original on her debut album but she has something that none of the new crop of teen singers have. A very charming presence. She sounds like she is having so much fun, and this is what this album is about. Having fun. From the sweet Miracles Happen to the funky remake of Dancing in the Streets. She has an engaging voice that really shines on the lovely ballads Wishing on the Same Star and Dreams. Other standout tracks include As If and 25 Hours a Day, to great dance songs that will surely put a smile on your face. Myra is a star in the making and this is one artist who isn't trying to impress anybody. She is a teen artist who put out a cd for teens. She's not acting older than she is and that whats so charming about her. One of the few albums that I enjoyed every song.
poplover!! August 16, 2001 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Hey, Me and Myra both grew up in the same town of Santa Rosa, California and i went to school. We weren't the best friends, but we were aquainted. She has always been so nice and down to earth. I always knew she would be a big hit. I saw her cd at Sam Goody and decided to buy it. I do NOT regret buying this cd. It is sooooooo good. There are only 2 songs i don't like much on this cd and that is why i gave this cd 4 stars. She has an amazing voice inside such little body. I recommend this cd to anyone who loves pop.
Mostly Mediocre August 15, 2001 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
With this album, the theory I've held for so long that anyone can get a record contract is fully proved. The latest, generic teenybopper pop siren to surface from the assembly line is Myra, evidently a product of Radio Disney, since she's on a Disney-owned record label. It's too bad the big 'D' couldn't throw out a few extra dollars and get not only a better singer, but some better material. Myra's voice typifies what many of these pop dollies possess--not much in the way of character, with very little range. Think a junior Jennifer Lopez without the catchy tunes. Granted, the album picks up a little in the mid to second half, but when the best song on the album is a Diane Warren snoozer('Wishing On The Same Star'), you know that you've got you're work cut out for you. Her take on 'Dancing In The Streets' shows there is some life in her voice, and 'Where You At?' and 'Hanging Up On You' aren't particularly bad either, but they can't compensate for an overall mediocre offering. Better luck next time, if in fact there is a next time.
Myra's CD is the greatest... August 13, 2001 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
My sister and I begged my mom to buy us this CD after we heard the song Miracles happen on the Disney channel, it is such a great song. It is also on the Princess Diaries soundtrack. We love Britney Spears, but after hearing this Cd, it is now our favorite. Lie, Lie, Lie is a good song too. Myra's voice is really beautiful and she is always dressed so well, not like she is older than 15 years-old, she is a good role model for young girls like me to look up to. The Cd also has a great pop sound, something that we had looked for in many of the popular albums that are out right now, but had never found. I recommend this album to anyone who simply wants to hear good music.
Better Than I Though August 8, 2001 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
i bought the album quickly after reading reviews when i went over at Fry's because i had a gift certificate and all. and i listened to the album and i loved it!! i especially like 'lie, lie, lie'. the only thing i don't understand is the song 'as if' on the album is the same as blaque's 'as 'if'. you know, the one that says 'don't shake your head from side to side saying that you will, but you won't ever see the light..'
