3 out of 5 stars Surprisingly better than first assumptions   March 10, 2006

Not much of a Hilary Duff fan here--being a teenaged male once she hit TV in her Disney Channel hit show, though, I could appreciate the picture she portrayed instead of the lack of depth behind it. Then she put out an album and my views on her entirely switched from "Man, she's cute" to "Man, she's got some good songs." Now I am in the generation that teen bubblegum pop music appealed to, since uber-hot then-newcomer Britney Spears came out during my 8th grade year (I'm right smack in the middle of the generation that genre was made to appeal to), and I can say that I indulged in it...a little. It never really took my breath away, but it was disposable and had a LOT of catchy melodies and hooks--plus my peers liked it, so I could appreciate it. But once it started moving out of that era, music that was once so popular and fun began to get annoying--I'd always liked Britney Spears because she was really, really hot, and I could sit through her CDs because of the image and the amount of ear candy she provided; pop/rock was officially in as heard in singer-songwriters like Michelle Branch, Vanessa Carlton and Avril Lavigne. So in 2003, right amidst my high school graduation, I heard Hilary Duff would be putting out a CD. The first thought that came to my mind was, "Gosh, not another cheesy Disney tween pop record!" I dismissed the idea instantly thinking she was just another Jennifer Lopez. Then I happened to be listening to the radio when "So Yesterday" first debuted and I was shocked--could I like a song from Hilary Duff? I listened intently, attracted to the pop/rock rhythms of the tune, and once the song finished I knew I had to get the CD. So despite what you think of Hilary Duff, this CD may surprise some of you...it did for me! "So Yesterday" and "Come Clean" are obviously the best singles on here, and the CD (sadly) does have an amount of Disney cheese-pop filler. But it's surprisingly better than expectations. If you don't like pop/rock, this isn't going to be for you--but if you stomach Hilary Duff in any sense at all you might want to give this a listen.

5 out of 5 stars Impressive Debut.   February 17, 2006

This is a really impressive debut from Hilary. My fav songs from it are Sweet Sixteen, Why Not, The Math, Anywhere But Here and my favourite Hilary song to date, Come Clean. I also love the title track alot. Hilary Duff is a prime example of someone who shows what teen pop should sound like for all teenagers. Her voice also has potential, and she has a good enough voice to carry a tune.

Plus, to the kids review a few reviews below mine, I am also a boy (13-year old) and agree with everything you said.

Anyway, this debut from Hil definately shown an impressive and successful career. Her other albums that follow, Hilary Duff and Most Wanted, a collection of songs, remixes and new tracks, are also great.

Cheers for reading!

Overcoming all the expectations can say that this fantastic well-known artist as Lizzie McGuire, you has demonstrated us that you has wood for singer with some original pure sounds and pointing especially to a Rock - Pop, had been able to use for the first time this disk that has been very sought-after and which is already common to listen to it in all the radios.

Happiness per Hilary and advance in this new facet of your life.

5 out of 5 stars Hilary Duff a singer that shows what teen pop really should sound like.   January 19, 2006

Okay, Im a boy that happens to be 12 and is a HUGE Hilary Duff fan. Yes I know weird but whatever.

This album really shows what teen pop is meant to be. It's supposed to be fun, cheerful, and catchy. And Hilary Duff does this really well in Metamorphosis. Although she may have an altered voice but these alerations are BARLEY NOTICABLE. Except maybe in Sweet 16 when she says "sweet sixteen". I have to say that she has quite an impressive voice considering how young she is. All of her songs are catchy and a good chunk of them is energetic. Im only going to review some songs.

SO Yesterday-A rather sassy song that HIlary sings. She sounds kind of normal here.

Come Clean- A slow song compared to it's remixed version from Most Wanted. This song talks about new beggnings.

The Math-Heres where Hilary goes into rock and surprisingly does extremeley well with it. Its a fun song but the lyrics are a bit cheesy.

Sweet 16-This song I LOVE. Its such a fun and energetic song that can give a smile on anyones face. I suggest you really do play it on someones Sweet Sixteen.

Metamorphosis-Okay, heres where her voice is doubled by quite a lot. I just forgot to say that at the top. It has an urban like sound to it and it isnt one of her best. She sounds a lot like shes talking.

Inner Strenght- A song by Haylie Duff. From this and other songs from her this one has to be the shortest. But it has a lot of meaning saying that you cant always trust everybody, even your boy/girl friend so you should try to become more independant. Infact, this shouldnt be called a song but a short but relaxing poem.

Why Not- A song for her movie. This one is also good but I dont know, she may have energy but it just cant live up to her others in my opinion.
