Excellent blend of classical and modern flair. July 13, 2006 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This music is brilliant. No matter what mood you're in when you start listening, by the end you'll be tapping your toes! I've listened to this CD so much, I've started whistling various tunes while at work. I highly recommend this CD, not just for the beautiful string pieces, but also for the excellent use of percussion in the original score. Perfect for anyone!

A little slow in spots. Reads like a fine piece of history. Soundtrack is good. Crowe would not have been my choce for the lead.
Beautiful soundtrack June 21, 2006 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have never seen the film Master and Commander but recently purchased the score as Iva Davies (of Icehouse fame) had composed music for the film along with fellow Austrailian composers Christopher Gordon and Richard Tognetti both had worked previously with Iva on his Ghost of Time album. All of the tracks are well written and performed wonderfully. For me there is not one sour note and since I have never seen the film sea shantys sung in the film are the least of my worries (besides this works wonders on its own merits). A soild 10 out of 10.
One of my favorite fun CD's June 20, 2006 If you loved the movie, you might like to add this CD to your collection. I think it's well done, exciting, and a true companion to the movie. After buying this CD, I found myself wanting more cello and violin music from the 1700's and early 1800's.
Too exciting to listen to while reading the novel, unless you turn it down during the drumming bits.
Beautiful violin work! September 27, 2005 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
I purchased this primarily because I so loved the lead violin work that is predominant through the score. It is hauntingly beautiful. (I also ordered the score to The Village by James Newton Howard for the same reason.)
This is one of my all-time favorite scores. I'm sure it will be near the top of my list for years to come.
