not her favorite baby einstein August 31, 2005 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
This one doesn't seem to hold her attention for very long. I should check the age, maybe she is too young at 18 months. I also wish she would spare us the marketing in the begining of the video that you can't fast forward. My baby don't need to see that crap.
It Means Well, But Give Me A Choice! August 31, 2005 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
The music, graphics and puppetry in this DVD are superb. The flaw in this DVD is that it doesn't give the non-hearing impared child what it needs. Children need to see a close-up view of a face and lips, mouthing new words. Children who can't yet talk fluidly shouldn't be losing half the screen to signing. It's too confusing. I have a pair of two year olds that clearly get distracted by the hand movements. One major obstacle that most kids face when learning a language is to learn the correct pronunciation of words. They need to see EXACTLY what the tongue and lips are doing to make a sound. The relative size of the mouth of the signer on the screen in this DVD is too small. The signing version should be a special feature. Or make a non-signing version as the special feature where my babies can see a close up of a face mouthing words. Once they can correcly pronounce the words, then they can watch the signing and learn it. But give me a choice here.
Help for a Late Talker August 24, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My son just turned two and only says about 10-12 words regularly, so he's a late talker. This DVD is helping him with his language skills. He doesn't care much for sign language, but he loves mimicing the words. The video definitely keeps his attention. He asks for it to be played every day. He sits on his little couch with his blanket and watches the whole thing. He would watch it twice if I let him. Great for teaching language to babies!
A huge benifit for all children August 21, 2005 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am pleased to see that ASL is finally getting more popular for young children. I have a child who is hearing impared and we have used ASL with her since she was an infant. This video is a good starting tool for young children but as they grow they will want to know more and will need something a little more entergetic to hold there attention. We also use the SIGNING TIME series with our daughter. We love the role model that Marlee has become in Blues clues and now in this new video. My 3 yr old recognized her right away.
Not my favorite but still great! August 20, 2005 Baby Wordsworth is a wonderful addition to the Baby Einstein collection. We have been teaching our 2 year-old daughter a few signs so we thought this DVD would compliment that well and it has! And although it's not her favorite (Baby Neptune has always held that honor), she does love it. My only wish is that this had come out about 10 months ago. Her vocabulary is far beyond the content of this DVD but she is now pairing the signs with the words, so she has learned from it. Our little ones are such sponges! Watch this DVD with your child and do the signs together....you'll be amazed how quickly they pick it up!
