4 out of 5 stars Tremendously moving and powerful. Best part of the movie!   January 12, 2008

While the movie qualifies as an "interesting failure" (although I'm a huge Aranofsky fan), the soundtrack is nothing but a success. Deeply layered with strong imagery and powerful emotional builds, this is one of my favorite new soundtracks. I'm sure I drive my co-workers nuts by humming some of the themes during the day! Amazon's MP3 offerings sound amazing. I was waiting for it to show up on iTunes Plus, but this sounds just as good as the CD version.

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful soundtrack   December 27, 2007
I fell in love with this movie and, soon after, fell in love with the soundtrack. I'm a fan of Clint Mansell's soundtrack to Requiem but this soundtrack puts it to shame. The Fountain's music is some of the best I have heard. It is haunting and powerful and strong.

5 out of 5 stars Haunting, beautiful, and brilliant   December 2, 2007

Darren Aronofsky's visionary masterpiece The Fountain is a sight to behold for sure, and one of the most memorable things about the film is the haunting score. Clint Mansell, who also scored Aronofsky's previous films Pi and Requiem for a Dream, provides the beautiful and haunting score for The Fountain, which may very well be one of the absolute best film scores you will ever hear. With assists from the Kronos Quartet and Scottish rockers Mogwai, Mansell provides a shockingly emotional, deliberately paced score that undermines the feelings of loss and love that Aronofsky exploited in his film. The end result is some of the most emotionally heartbreaking film score music ever crafted, and if you don't believe me there, give a listen to the closing "Together We Will Live Forever", played during the closing credits of the film. "Tree of Life", "Stay With Me", and "First Snow" also illustrate the haunting beauty of the film, and "Death is the Road to Awe" is nothing short of epic and heartbreaking. All in all, Clint Mansell's score to Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain is a haunting and brilliant piece of music that is both sad and beautiful at the same time, and needless to say that if you enjoyed the music in the film, the score is an essential pick up.

5 out of 5 stars Extraordinary music from a visionary film   October 30, 2007
I knew the first time I saw The Fountain (and since then there have been many viewings) that I'd have to track down this score. It's haunting, mesmerizing, beautiful, melancholy, magickal and dreamlike...very much like the film. I love to play this on the weekends when I drive up to visit friends in the mountains, it's great road music. I can honestly say that I've never heard anything quite like it and I only wish there were more tracks or that they were longer. But it does contain every bit of melody and music from the film, from all three stories, so if you fell in love with the unique sound you won't be disappointed. I thought the cardboard case was a bit on the cheapskate side, but I suspect that this was all done on a modest budget, since it wasn't exactly a big money project or even a sleeper hit. Too bad, because from the script to the cast to the direction and music, this is all incredible, awe inspiring work.

5 out of 5 stars intoxicating   October 25, 2007
The music is so gorgeous, it makes the movie seem all that more beautiful and romantic. The soundtrack gives the feeling of an inspiration of hope--especially important to us who feel that they're living in dark times. Sometimes the soundtrack is invigorating, sometimes melancholy, but always soothing to my soul-- and to anyone who loves life and chooses to see the beauty in the world around them.
