Like none other today! July 27, 2000 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This album has got to be my favorite yet of any artist as a whole. I relished upon the seemingly private and personal "With Every Breath I Take" and "Extensions," both of which were hopelessly romantic ballads, undeniably inspired performances. It was impossible to see how she breathed new life into such standards as "Bye Bye Blackbird," "My Funny Valentine," and even "You Send Me" (!). Ms. Ferrell here clearly wants the listener to gain a sense of her voice: limitless (it would seem) and flexible. The very necessary-only accompaniment seems to suit her voice more than the big band type orchestration that some vocalists prefer. Believe me, she can "comp" on the high and low ends of her well-used, multiple ocave range. (Can you say "Grand piano"?)Only one thing: I found it hard to play the whole CD through, nonstop. I was too busy falling in love with the songs and having to play them over and over again. "What is this Thing Called Love" was addictively vibrant, packed with unexpected vocal jumps and rolls. "Autumn Leaves" was a soulful scat revival of the WELL-covered number. "Prayer Dance" held a special, evocative flavor combined with her haunting soprano that combined to soothe. Buy it if you want a taste of the future of not only quality and vibrant jazz, but supreme vocals, both of which are rare and highly mistaken these days... PS: Ms. Ferrell, I think I am in love. With your voice, that is.
Absolutely Soul Stirring July 17, 2000 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I can just play this CD over and over again. Long lost are songs that are just BEAUTIFUL. There is no other word to describe the lyrics, the sound, the feeling. I feel silly that I just heard of Ms. Ferrell recently and hate that I have not has such beautiful music in my ears since '90 when this was released.
Ms. Ferrell reins SUPREME May 4, 2000 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
What can be said about the talent of Ms. Ferrell, the only thing I can think of is that she is the ULTIMATE. The vocal skills of Ms. Ferrell is totally mind blowing. It doesn't seem to matter if she is singing "My Funny Valentine" or "You Send Me" she takes you with her on her journey and rocks you ever so gently in her sound. I love the songs "With Open Arms" I go on an imaginary adventure every time I hear it. My favorite song by Ms. Ferrell is "Welcome To My Love" it is just sooooo good. In the dictionary the word "SUPREME" means highest in degree or quality. That describes the gift of voice that was given to Ms. Ferrell. To hear her sing is pure heaven.

I feel in love with the music of Rachell Ferrell after hearing "With Open Arms" as a producer/intern at a radio station in Hawaii...needless to say I went out and got her first album and after listening to it over and over again, I covered every record store I could find to see what else she had out and I came across this. All I can say is awesome. I have not had the opportunity to see her live (YET) but you can bet your last dollar that the minute they announce she is coming to town, I will be in front of line willing to pay upwards of a $100 to see her perform live. Please hurry and give us another album.
