5 out of 5 stars expand your mind   February 13, 2000

i am a die-hard fan of this woman.i have had the pleasure of seeing her live and if you don't get a chance to, this album is your best bet. i was not always a fan of jazz, but since finding this woman i can't believe what i was missing. she has an amazing gift from god. only he could bestow such a gift on a human. her pitch-amzing,range-skyrocketing.unfortunately she is not as recognized as she should be.luckily she has a base core of fans who love and appreciate her talent and i can't wait to here new things from her.if you can sample this album and bow down to the talent of ms. ferrell... peace.

5 out of 5 stars The best jazz vocal CD of the 1990s?   November 16, 1999

If you love the demanding jazz vocals of Betty Carter or Sheila Jordan but consider most jazz vocalists of this decade to be bland as frozen entrees, you'll probably love Rachelle Ferrell. Her voice and her technique are both astonishing, and her original approach evokes feelings most of us didn't suspect these songs had in them anymore. (Ignore what that reviewer above says about Autumn Leaves - it's worth the price of the CD alone.) The only mystery is why she's only released one jazz CD in almost 10 years. (Her self-titled CD is a dull non-jazz affair.)

5 out of 5 stars DANGEROUS VOCAL ACROBATICS, SMOOTH SENTUAL TONES   November 3, 1999

THIS WOMAN IS THE NEW JAZZ GENIUS. HER RANGE, TONE, AND SCATTING ABILITIES COMBINE TO CREATE A FEAST FOR THE EARS.

THERE HAS NEVER IN HISTORY BEEN ANOTHER VOICE LIKE THAT OF RACHELLE FERRELL.I HAVE BEEN HER NUMBER ONE FAN SINCE THE FIRST TIME I HEARD HER VOICE.THIS ALBUM DEMONSTRATES HER MASTERY OF THE "FIRST INSTRUMENT", THE HUMAN VOICE. I AM ON MY THIRD COPY OF THIS CD AFTER WEARING OUT THE FIRST TWO. SHE IS AWESOME.
