4 out of 5 stars Yay   November 4, 2004

Thank God these people took the time to compile this collection, now I can just get this and don't have to bother figuring out what's good and what's not good. Everything classical that's worth listening to is here. If it's not included, it must not be worth listening to. Even if it is, who cares, I'll never waste my time trying to find out. And to all you snobs who think you're so intellectual and know every friggin symphony number and composer that ever existed, give yourself a pat on the back for being better than everyone else.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent performances, well captured   August 27, 2004

In my untutored opinion, the performances on this "sampler" CD and the quality of their recording are both excellent.

...to learn to love classical. These collection contains some of the most recognizable pieces - the ones even non-fans will recognize and classical aficionados adore. Excellent for relaxation, romantic dinners, or the drive home from work. Highly recommend!

1 out of 5 stars The worst approach for beginners   July 22, 2004

This is a overly bad commercial operation, a really wrong way to make beginners close to classical music. This is a perfect example about how bad marketing is presenting sublime human creations trying to turn it in a mass-market product for the average Joe. I was exposed to classical music at the age of 14 listening Bach's Branderbourgh concerts, then softly moving to Operas starting with Rossini 'Il Barbiere di Siviglia'. then the passion started growing more and more, aided by further readings around. On the top of all, I received a good background education at school aiding me to go better in depth to this to this. The knowledge process is harder that this kind of compilation make people suppose to be ...

Sadly, the fact that classical music (and jazz) market share is below 4% is a further indication of the degradation of world wide listeners' audience ... maybe spent on school education some of the military budget could help

I don't hate Classical Music. I just don't know much about it. This kinda K-tel's Greatest Hits of Classical Music 4 CD set is not for the Classical Music afficiando. It is McClassical for the masses. It is an overview - a Classical Music 101 that is a lovely motivational background for housework & home office work (I find myself playing "Name That Tune" as I whistle while I work,) and it soothes the soul of the savage beast (Lucy Inda Sky, my Basset Hound.) /TundraVision, Amazon Reviewer
