True Classic August 10, 2003 Lewis Taylor has a voice that is rich, soulful and incessantly addictive. Although influences such as Marvin Gaye are audible his style and tone are still unique. On this, his debut album, he uses his voice in beautiful taste with the dark, progressive R&B grooves throughout. The exception is the track "Whoever", a very catchy, more pop orientated R&B song (although still in the Lewis Taylor style) which gives the album more range. Overall it is highly atmospheric and its dark production technique, haunting riffs and sensuous vocals sets a mood like no other, highly recommended.
Amazing artist and individual June 26, 2003 Lewis Taylor...a musical genius! This album is incredible. The lyrics, the music...amazing. You really feel the deep emotion, heart and soul that went into each and every song! Deep, dark and very soulful... Check this album out, as well as his other works of art! You will not be disappointed.
Probably the best record of the 90's... March 19, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Full of musical talent, the lyrics are awesome too. If you like Marvin Gaye, if you like Maxwell, if you are looking for deep&real emotions, try this record.
Still Fresh May 28, 2002 Bought this album in 1997 and have to say it has a serious longevity factor, as you'll want to dig it out just like the other classics in your collections time and time again. Lewis is a truly gifted lyricist and musician. The comparisons have been made but Lewis is really just Lewis, a white guy with serious soul....
Prince, Stevie & Marvin rolled into one March 17, 2002 ... the way the songs take you in one direction then midway spin you round and take you off somewhere else and your whole body tingles (yes it lifts the hairs on the back of your neck) I really can't praise this album enough, it's without a doubt one of the greatest CDs Iv ever heard. Yes I know that sounds a bit corny but it really is that good. There's a line in the title track of his 2nd Cd where he says.... "I was only trying to make you feel Good, Strange, Different, a Different kind of groove" ...which says it all!! Lewis Taylor is the best kept secret in music!!
