Believe it! May 13, 2000 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Good to see all the fantastic things other people are saying about Lewis Taylor. I agree with everything written below. This CD is far and away my favourite of the 90s, and Lewis Taylor has the potential to be the most important artist of this new decade. The comparisons with Marvin Gaye are accurate and, as with What's Going On, it's possible to listen to just about every element of this album (bass lines, drum programming, backing vocal arrangements, guitar playing) on its own and find something amazing. When you think that all of this was done by Lewis alone it makes it that much more of an incredible achievement. Of course, as noted, the most amazing thing is that he's released virtually nothing (a couple of tracks on soundtrack albums, one of which was a duet AND a cover version!) since this album came out over three years ago. One wonders what Island are doing with him. At any rate, I will be pre-ordering his next album without waiting to hear a single track - I have that much confidence in him. (Incidentally, he is great live as well.)
groovy london dunk soul kinda thang May 10, 2000 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Wow, I'm pleasantly please by the sound of this artist. His ability to tap into the veterns and pull from a sound of his own is unbelievable. The listner is taken on a mystical journey through time, oceans, generations and color lines. This artist should have been released in the U.S. this was a true crime for true music fans. I recommend you listen, buy and tell a friend about Lewis Taylor. I believe his name will become a household item in the near future.
music for life May 5, 2000 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Lewis Taylor is one of the most exceptional musical artist ever. Singer, songwriter, musician and God's gift to music lovers everywhere. Timeless sexy tunes and original lyrics get you addicted to his music the first time, after that, it's just a drug, you can't have enough of it. It's truly music for the soul, and I hope he continues to create more masterpieces, he can't disappoint. Lewis, wherever you are, your music is magic.
Whoever Is The Love In My Life... December 4, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
... had better measure up to Lewis Taylor. I'm fifteen years old and someday I am going to marry this man. I first heard him on the Rebirth of Cool 6, and I fell in love instantly. I eventually got my hands on his CD, and I haven't stopped listening to it since. "Bittersweet" is a fantastic, wonderful song. Nothing could possibly compare to it's grand, grand, grand finale. "Whoever" is a great sing-along song, and when you sing along with Lewis there is NO way you could sound bad. The girl-friendly "Right" will leave all you women feeling empowered (and totally swooning). All I can say is that this is a life-changing CD and it should be in everyone's collection. Give it as a gift to the person you love!
NOT SO LUCKY October 18, 1999 This album is truly a work of art. Lewis is highly intelligent musical genius the best of London Soul talent. However before all you Yanks carry on shedding tears over the lack of release of this album over the water can I point out that this guy is so low profile here in London. Every week I search the listings for the chance to see him and sit gagging for his new album , so youre definitely not missing out on the party! Very few have even heard of him over here and his work lies rather hidden away amongst the soul, R&B sections of record shop which for the non expert is a maze of ridiculuous sounding names and a section of the shop one feels to be daunted in unless wearing the right label. Anyway lets hope that the man keeps his international fans happy so that we can all feel lucky .
