5 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Experience   August 20, 2002

Gary Brooker never ceases to amaze. In this CD, he combines the familiar sounds of Procol Harum with spirituals that stir the soul. This is Brooker at his best. Don't miss it.

4 out of 5 stars A Special Album That Could Have Been Better   July 11, 2002

The concept behind this album is fantastic - a live concert mixing stately Procol Harum classics with classic sacred music. However, the execution is somewhat disappointing. The Procol Harum selections are truly majestic. However, the sacred selections are not well suited to Gary Brooker's musical talents. Most of them are "Negro"-style spirituals, which means that they require a certain "black" or soul-full singing and keyboard style. Several of Gary's English contemporaries - Steve Winwood, Joe Cocker, etc. - would be well-suited to such material. Gary Brooker, however, has a much more classically European voice and piano style. He would have been much better served by performing some classic English hymns (anything by Isaac Watts, for example).

I applaud Gary Brooker for recording this album, and I hope that he will consider recording a follow-up incorporating sacred music that more closely matches Procol Harum's classical sound.

For those looking for a combination of Procol Harum's literate stylings with a church choir. The high quality of the arrangements make it almost impossible to believe that this was originally created for an extremely limited distribution. Highest rating!

Gary Brooker using his talent at the finest. An oustanding arrangement, chior utilization and sound perfection while recording live in the confines of a chruch. A must for any Brooker or Procal Harum fan.

Gary Brooker continues to this day, to be an absolutely wonderful performer and musician. In a day of sound alike no talent offerings we are truly blessed to have this shining star. My suggestion would be: If Gary Brooker is involved in any musical offering....BUY IT!! Shine On Gary Brooker.....Shine On!
